Earlid
Surgery (Ear Reconstruction)
Plastic & Reconstruction Surgeon, Alan Bienstock, MD is a leading
expert in performing various types of ear reconstruction surgeries.
Depending on the deformity, reconstruction can take different forms.
Some of the more common surgical ear reconstructive surgeries the doctor
performs are listed on this website. For information pertaining to any
ear reconstructive surgery which is not listed on this website please
contact the surgeon at either his Manhattan, New York or Lawrenceville,
New Jersey office.
Otoplasty - Prominent Ears Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct prominent or "large"
ears. Otoplasty is a common procedure performed in the United States on
thousands of patients every year. This procedure is usually performed on
children between 5 to 6 years of age just prior to entering first grade
but can also be performed on anyone at anytime.
Otoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient either under general
anesthesia which puts the patient "asleep" through the entire operation
or under local anesthesia. After surgery, a head bandage is worn one
week followed by a head band at night for one month.
Torn Ear Lobe Reconstruction Ear reconstruction can involve the entire ear or only a part - the
lobe. Otoplasty is a general term for ear reshaping. Torn ear lobe
reconstruction is much less involved than other forms of ear reshaping
and is a safe and quick procedure.
Traumatic Ear Deformities Various parts of the ear are frequently injured in accidents. Even
the entire ear may be lost because of its exposure in its projection
from the head. Traumatic ear deformities can be surgically corrected.
Depending on the nature of the traumatic injury, Doctor Bienstock will
customize the reconstructive procedure.
Surgery for Partial or Whole Ear Loss There are now two reconstructive options - to have the ear rebuilt
from their own tissues (autogenous ear reconstruction) or to have a
prosthetic or false ear anchored to the bone of the side of the head by
titanium (Branemark) fixtures.
